Retiring from Modding

Retiring from Modding

Postby piratesmvp04 » Sat Jul 31, 2010 2:05 am

I know this is long, and I have trouble saying these types of things in short ways, but please bear with me.

Almost three years ago, I finally decided that I needed to purchase a new baseball game to replace the old High Heat 2001 I'd been using for years. At the time, I wanted to buy MVP Baseball 2005, but I soon realized that the game was nowhere to be found at the local GameStops, and the prices on Amazon were well out of my reach. Fortunately, one GameStop still had one copy of MVP Baseball 2004, and I decided it was better than nothing. I made the purchase and was very pleased, but the old rosters were still a problem for me. Having done some extensive modding with High Heat 2001, I decided to learn how to mod MVP 04. My original goal was mainly to update rosters, but through the great help and encouragement of many people at this site, that dream soon blossomed to much more. The result was a fully extensive mod that covered almost all angles from rosters to uniforms, to stadiums and portraits. The mod gave the game a modern feel and it was a great cheap alternative for people like myself who could not afford MVP 05. It was truly a dream come true for me.

The past three mods have improved greatly each time. I have received many emails, private messages, and blog comments from people thanking me for this mod and expressing their appreciation for my work. I have even received donations from a few people. I am very grateful for the compliments from everyone. And most importantly, I am very grateful to all the other modders on this site who gave me advice and let me use some of their mods.

It has been a great run for me during these past three years, and I have some great memories, including staying up past midnight to work on rosters :) . But, I am about to graduate from college and I am planning to attend medical school next year. As such, I will not have as much free time as I do now. Thus, I will not have the necessary time that is required to continue to create the top-quality mods I have made throughout the past few years. Further, the baseball modding community is moving in a new direction. MVP 05 has almost been phased out and the focus is now on the MLB 2k series. That means that even fewer people will be playing MVP 04.

So, in light of all these facts, I have decided to officially retire from modding baseball video games. I have thought through this decision a lot because I do love releasing a huge product to the public and seeing everyone enjoy it so much. However, it is more important for me to put my priorities in the right place which will be a LOT of study for the next 4 years. I thank everyone for their assistance to me the past few years, namely, UncleMo, thespungo, kgbaseball, Homer, and krawhitham. I wish everyone well, and hope to see you all again sometime in the future!

you're quitting modding, but be sure to drop by and check out new mods every once in awhile. believe me, i know what it's like to go through school like that, but you will still need to find time for yourself, so don't spend all of your time studying!
