MVP 2010 & many thanks to Pirate!

Postby cdadare » Tue Jul 13, 2010 4:31 pm

Although I don't know Pirate that well, besides somewhat working with him on creating the 2010 rosters, I'm sure I speak for the entire 2004 community when I say THANKS for all the hard work you've put in over the years!

I recall many moons ago, when 04 & 05 were released and how exciting it was to actually be able to modify those games on the PC!

That was a very cool readme that was included with the 2010 Mod. It saddened me to hear that there probably won't be anymore Piratesmvp04 Mods.

HATS OFF TO PIRATE!

Hey pirate. I am just curious as to why you chose to focus on 04 rather than 05. Is there something about that version that you enjoy more, or do you just chose to stay loyal to your fan base ?

I havent played 04 in so long I cant really remember any differences in the gameplay? Could you refresh me?

Well, when I started modding MVP 04 almost three years ago, the EAMods community was already modding MVP 05. They were actually focused with getting MVP 08 off the ground, but no one was modding MVP 04. I actually had wanted to buy MVP 05, but I couldn't find it cheap anywhere, so I had to settle for MVP 04. So, I decided to just mod that since it was what I had. Through the help of dozens of people, the mod became greater than I expected and what it is today. I have MVP 05 now, but I still mod MVP 04 simply because no one else is doing it so it's an 'open market'. The goal of this mod was always to provide a cheap alternative for those who cannot afford to dole out $70 for MVP 05.

As far as gameplay is concerned, there are some differences. On a ground ball to first base, you can throw it to the pitcher while he's running, you have to wait until he reaches first before he can accept the throw. So, sometimes it made more sense to just run to first yourself instead of waiting for the pitcher. Also, the pitch meter was way too easy because there was no yellow and green regions. It was just a big green region. So, all you had to do was get the meter somewhere within that green area and you threw a perfect pitch. Thus, it wasn't hard to make all your pitchers Cy Young award candidates. Another minor thing was that you couldn't move within the batter's box. Besides that, I think the gameplay is similar.

Thanks for the comments! I have no current plans to make a mod for MVP 05 at this time. My life is about to get busier when I go to grad school next year, so I won't have as much time for modding. That's part of the reason why this is my last mod for MVP 04.

I don't post much at all but was a member of the old site from its origins on the net. And have been an avid downloader of MVP's mods since its inception. Regarding your retirement I felt I should write something to you. Your mods have made a good game into a great one. They have been an integral part of this series and brought countless hours of enjoyment to fans all over the world. I can't imagine playing these games without having your mods included in them. I can't thank you enough for all the work you done and the level of quality that you put into your mods has always been top notch. I wish you well and hope that your future brings you much success. Thanks again for all your dedication.

I wanted to put this in your retirement thread but I figured I'd put it here instead.
